about
lowkey type is a free touch-typing curriculum. it teaches the keyboard the same way a classroom keyboarding unit does: start on the home row, add a few keys at a time, and build accuracy before speed. there are fifteen lessons, and together they cover every letter key plus the shift key for capitals.
the site watches which keys a student misses or slows down on and offers extra practice focused on exactly those keys. that adaptive practice is the whole idea: short, targeted exercises instead of long, generic ones. a student can also compose their own practice by picking a focus, a theme, and a length.
it is free because keyboarding is a basic skill, and a tool for practicing it should not cost anything or come wrapped in advertising. there are no ads, no accounts, and no tracking. progress is stored locally on the device the student uses, so there is nothing to sign up for and nothing to log in to.
lowkey type is built and maintained by a small independent team. the language and visual design are intentionally calm and educational so it is appropriate for school networks and classroom use. it does not compare students to each other — the only progress that matters is a student’s own, on their own device.
students can expect clear lessons, immediate feedback on speed and accuracy, and a finger guide that shows which finger reaches each key. teachers and families can expect a quiet, predictable tool with no surprises.
